Gardenia yellow, a kind of natural edible pigment, is extracted from the fruits of Rubiaceea plants Gardenia Jasminoides Ellis.
Gardenia jasminoides Ellis is a commonly-used traditional Chinese herbal medicine with a wide range of pharmacological activities.
Gardenia yellow pigment and geniposide are the two main chemical components in the fruit of gardenia Gardenia jasminoides Ellis. Gardenia yellow pigment ,with good water-solubility, had been widely used as food additive and industry dye. Geniposide is one of the functional components of hepatic protective and anti-inflammation activities.The fruits of Gardenia has been used for the remedy for hepatic pain due to cirrhosis, abdominal pain due to dysentery, anti-phlogistics, diuretic and choleretic. Recent medicinal reports indicate that Gardenia herb also has sedative effect. The major active constituents of Gardenia fruits is geniposide. Gardenia pigments is also used as natural food color additive.
Application: Coloring of ice cream ,fruit jelly,candy,cake, swelled food, confectionery, Canton flavor wheat cake, seasoning,sugar coating for tablet and cosmetics.
