Definition: Interpretation

Interpreting is kind of communication. It is a process of translating from one language to another language verbally.

Business interpreting plays important role in our economic activities. It generally refers to Ad-hoc Interpreting, Consecutive Interpreting and Simultaneous Interpreting.


Ad-hoc Interpreting: It is widely used in business communications such as common business meetings, outside tour, onsite visit etc. Speech is interpreted in short amounts e.g. after a few sentences, when accuracy is requested or when a two way conversation is taking place.
Consecutive Interpreting: It is widely used in various kinds of conferences including diplomatic meetings or business meetings. Here speech is interpreted shortly after the speaker has spoken in order not to cut its flow.

Simultaneous interpreting: It is usually used for formal international or top-level conferences. Here professional business interpreters wear headsets and provide immediate interpretation. They work in pairs in language booths.
