1.2738 Steel Application GB 3Cr2MnNiMo / ASTM P20+Ni / DIN 1.2738 steel is widely used in various mold manufacturing due to its outstanding properties, such as plastic molds, die-casting molds, hot-pressing molds, cold heading molds, etc. It is also used in the manufacture of mechanical parts, heavy equipment, medical equipment, bearings, pipes, gears, chemical equipment, home appliance housings, etc. And with the advancement of science and technology and the innovation of industrial design, the application fields of 1.2738 steel are also expanding. For example, it is used to make high-end musical instruments, such as violins, guitars, etc., providing musicians with better performance tools.
P20+Ni 1.2738 Material Treatment Process
The material obtains better performance through its heat treatment process. The 1.2738 is quenched and tempered at low temperature to improve the hardness performance. It can also be nitrided and flame hardened to increase the high hardness, high strength, corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the mold steel surface. During the tempering process, the brittleness of the steel is reduced and the toughness is improved by keeping the temperature at an appropriate temperature for a period of time and then cooling. The choice of tempering temperature and time will affect the hardness, strength and toughness of the steel.
DIN 1.2738 Delivery Status
（1）The supply state of 1.2738 die steel is generally hot rolled or forged. Its supply specifications include plates, round steel, square steel, etc.;
（2）1.2738 supply hardness is 280-325HBW;
（3）Surface treatment: black surface, rough machining, peeled and turned or as given requirements.
Price: Since Ni is a rare metal, the prices of 1.2738 and P20+Ni are higher than those of P20 or P20+S after adding Ni element. Generally speaking, the price difference is around 250~300USD/TON.
