Yohimbine is an indole alkaloid derived from the bark of the Pausinystalia yohimbe tree in Central Africa. It is primarily used as a treatment for erectile dysfunction. Brand names include: Erex, Testomar, Yocon, Yohimar, Yohimbe. It is a stimulant with aphrodisiac and mild MAOI effects that primarily acts as an antagonist of α2 receptors. It is available as a prescription medication in the standardized form, yohimbine hydrochloride, for the treatment of xerostomia and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor induced sexual dysfunction.
Yohimbe bark has been used as an aphrodisiac (sexual stimulant) for many years. Yohimbe bark has been declared an unsafe herb in Germany because of such complications as increased heart rate and blood pressure, and even kidney failure. In the United States, supplements that are labeled as containing yohimbe bark often contain very little of it.

On the other hand, yohimbine hydrochloride, which is the substance in yohimbe bark thought to help with erections, is more carefully controlled so that it does contain the labeled ingredient. It is mainly used as a treatment for erectile dysfunction (male impotence), although there are concerns about its side effects and interactions with other medicines, alcohol, and even some foods. Yohimbine hydrochloride is often called simply yohimbine, although it is made under several brand names.
Applications:

Use of yohimbine outside therapeutic settings may not be appropriate for persons suffering from PTSD. In pharmacology, yohimbine is used as a probe for α2-adrenoceptor. In veterinary medicine, yohimbine is used to reverse anesthesia from the drug xylazine in small and large animals. One of the first alpha-two antagonists developed to provide complete reversal of anesthetic effects of xylazine hydrochloride, yohimbine is predominantly used in dogs.
