Synvisc Classic 3x2ml is an injectable product designed to treat osteoarthritis (OA) knee pain by restoring the viscosity and elasticity of synovial fluid in the joint. Synvisc Classic is usually prescribed when other osteoarthritis medications have been tried and have failed to relieve the symptoms of OA.
Synvisc Classic is an elastoviscous fluid with a high molecular weight that contains hylan A and hylan B polymers derived from chicken combs. Hylans are hyaluronan-derived compounds (sodium hyaluronate). Synvisc Classic’s hyaluronan is chemically crosslinked, making it a one-of-a-kind product. This long-chain polymer is made up of repeating Na-glucuronate-N-acetylglucosamine disaccharide units. Once injected, hyaluronan begins to lubricate and cushion the knee joint, effectively eliminating pain.
