Primary Steam Reforming Catalysts

Primary Steam reforming is the key process in the production of syngas for ammonia
plants. In this process, natural gas is mixed with steam and reformed to synga. Considering this carrier as
a basic catalyst support, the coke formation during the reforming of light natural
gas feedstock will be significantly retarded compared to alpha alumina carrier. In
addition, by exposing the catalyst at high temperatures, this carrier shows excellent
thermal stability due to its superior thermal characteristics. The catalyst pellets also
indicate a uniform and high crush strength. The high specific surface area owing to
suitable porosity and proper pore size distribution results in high catalytic activity
and lower coke formation over the surface of the catalyst. Due to no presence of free
calcium oxide (CaO) besides well carrier hydration step under high temperature and
pressure steam prior to impregnate with nickel salt.
