New 2015 ORBEA ALMA 27 M30 BIKE

The Orbea Alma M30 sits squarely between the performance of the M20 and the value of the M50. It shares a frame with both, and has components from each.

That frame, the Alma built with OMP, Orbea Monocoque Performance carbon fiber is an aggressive cross country race frame that brings great rear-end comfort to a hard tail ride. Thanks to the fat 1 ½” lower diameter of the steerer, triangulated down tube, wide BB92 bottom bracket shell, and widely-set chain stays, steering is easy and pedaling efficiency is high. But their real magic is with the 4x4 design for vibration damping and shock absorption of the rear triangle. It features swoops over straight lines starting at the back of the top tube and going down to the dropouts, the shaping, lay-up, and extra distances mean that there’s flex in the vertical plane. Add a narrow 27.2mm seat post and you have a soft ride for your back, and great traction for the rear wheel.

The Alma has been a 29er for years. What’s new is they’ve scaled down some of the frames for 27.5” wheels. They shortened stays, top tubes and head tubes to achieve this. The bikes not only are smaller, but ride smaller, too. The Small frames are exclusively equipped with 27.5” wheels, the Medium and Larges in both 27.5” and 29” and the Extra Large in 29”. In all cases, the geometry has been tweaked to best utilize the wheel size chosen. For those in the middle, use personal preferences, and terrain to choose which wheel suits you best.
