cis-15-Tetracosanoic acid;a 24-carbon straight-chain fatty acid unsaturated between C-15 and C-16; occurs in cerebrosides such as nervone.
It is a very long chain unsaturated fatty acid consisting of choline, sphingosine, phosphoric Acid, and fatty acid.
It serves as an electrical insulator that speeds up the conduction of nerve impulses. Therapeutically, nervonic acid is suggested to improve brain functions (e.g. memory), defer caducity, put off tiredness, prevent demyelination, and keep low fat in the blood.
