Kaplan turbine generator unit

Kaplan turbine is applicable to the middle & low water head and large flow hydropower station. Water head is about 3 meters to 80 meters, normally less than 50 meters. Under the same head, its specific speed is higher than the Francis turbine. Water flowing between the guide vane and the runner is radial into axial, and in the runner area, water flow keeps axial direction.

It can be divided into two types as fixed blade and rotating blade according to its structure. The fixed blade type is mainly used for small hydropower station with medium and small capacity, small variation in load. While rotating blade type is mainly used for hydropower plant with medium and big capacity, big variation in load.
