Huh7 Derivation and culture
Huh7 cell line is an immortal tumorigenic cell line, established from a well differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma cell. It is firstly derived from a 57-year-old Japanese in 1982. Huh7 human hepatoma cells are epithelial-like and adherent to the flask surface.
Huh7 characters and applications
Huh7 is hypersensitive to the hepatitis C virus (HCV) so that Huh-7 and its derivatives are commonly used as a hepatoma model for HCV infectious research and related drug development. Their expression of a Y220C-mutated form of p53 is aberrantly stable but transcriptionally inactive.
Huh-7 cells are heterogeneous, as the chromosome number of most Huh7 cells is between 55 and 63 (mode 60).
Huh-7 is metastatic in mice, thus can be injected into immunodeficient mouse to create mouse model, where the growth of Huh-7 cells can be monitored. Such preclinical animal models are crucial to tumor growth inhibition studies.
