HaCaT Derivation
HaCaT cell line is the immortalized human keratinocyte cell line that transformed from adult skin.

HaCaT Culture properties
HaCaT cell culture can also form stratified epidermal structure. However, the form can transmit between a differentiated and a basal state depending on Ca2+ concentration changes in the medium. Result of cytokine production suggests that HaCaT keratinocytes maintain 80% confluent similar to normal keratinocytes in low Ca2+ concentration media.

Application
HaCaT cells can be utilized as a reproducible model that characterizes human keratinocyte to solve problems like short culture lifespans and variation.
As primary keratinocytes are frequently used in immunological and inflammatory responses researches. The highly differentiated and proliferated HaCaT in vitro reproducible cell model that characterizes human keratinocytes, extensively used to study the epidermal homeostasis and pathophysiology. LPS-treated HaCaT is a widely known and reported cell model for inflammatory analysis and related drug test. HaCaT cells can also transplanted into athymic mice, retaining the reconstitute capacity to form a well-structured epidermis architecture after transplantation in vivo.
