Abstract

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), also known as luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) and luliberin, is a trophic peptide hormone responsible for the release offollicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary.

GnRH is synthesized and released from GnRH neurons within the hypothalamus. The peptide belongs to gonadotropin-releasing hormone family. It constitutes the initial step in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.

Gonadorelin is another name for gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). It is a synthetic decapeptide prepared using solid phase peptide synthesis. GnRH is responsible for the release of follicle stimulating hormone and leutinizing hormone from the anterior pitutitary.

Application

Gonadorelin is used to test how well the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands are working. It is also used to cause ovulation (release of an egg from the ovary) in women who do not have regular ovulation and menstrual periods because the hypothalamus gland does not release enough GnRH.

In the pituitary GnRH stimulates synthesis and release of FSH and LH, a process that is controlled by the frequency and amplitude of GnRH pulses, as well as the feedback of androgens and estrogens. Thus a single hormone, GnRH, controls a complex process of follicular growth, ovulation, and corpus luteum maintenance in the female, and spermatogenesis in the male. Its short half life requires infusion pumps for its clinical use.

Dosage and Usage

Gonadorelin is usually administered as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. If you are using gonadorelin at home, carefully follow the injection procedures taught to you by your health care provider.

If gonadorelin contains particles or is discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged in any way, do not use it.
