EMG needle

All EMG needle electrodes are applied as recording electrodes in the field of neurophysiologic functional diagnosis by the neurological physician to record the electrical activity of the human muscle. The EMG machine amplifies, filters, and displays the recorded EMG potentials on a monitor and generates simultaneously sound signals via a loudspeaker. These signals itself, produced by the human muscle, are detected by the trained neurological physician by viewing the signals on the monitor and listening to their sounds, whether the muscle discharges are strong or weak, fast or slow. They are evaluated within the context of a differential diagnosis, whether the source of the malfunction is rooted in the muscle itself or in the related nerve. Each EMG examination must be initiated by a thorough clinical examination of the patient. In the course of the EMG examination the needle itself is inserted in the relaxed muscle. The insertion activity is evaluated. Then the patient is asked to voluntarily contract the muscle in different degrees of force.
