Wide-angle lenses capture larger viewing areas than regular lenses. Measured in millimeters, a dome camera's lens can be anywhere from 1.8mm (wide angle) to 170mm (narrow angle). Dome cameras offer both digital and optical zoom. In terms of video quality, optical zoom is far superior.
