What is the difference between Ball screw and lead screw?
The main differing feature between a ball screw and a lead screw is the ball bearings within a ball screw assembly. This makes a ball screw more complex, but it also has a number of benefits. For example lead screws are much less efficient than ball screw assemblies. The actual efficiency is determined by lead angle, but a reasonable number for a typical ball screw assembly is 90% efficiency or more. Due to this high efficiency, in conjunction with other features such as low friction, ball screws have a driving torque that is usually about a third that of a typical lead screw
