Citrus Oil

Citrus oil is a concentrated extract from various plants of the citrus tree family, such as such as orange, lemon, lime and tangerine. The glands and the cuticles of the fruit are used for oil and in some cases the leaves and flowers are also used for exraction of the oil, using the cold-press method. It has medicinal properties like anti-anemic, antimicrobial, anti-rheumatic, anti-sclerotic, antiseptic, bactericidal and carminative.

Citrus oil is produced manily by Mediterranean countries like Italy, Corsica , Sicily and North and South Americas. Since various fruits of the citrus family is used for the oil, there is no dominant odor of any one fruit. Different proportions of various citrus fruits give individual odors which are very distinct and unique. There are two components that are very essential and they are limonene and citral. The oil blends easily with coniferous oils, several spice oils, and with other citrus oils and also with neroli, patchouli, lavender, atlas cedarwood and eppermint.
