Cajuput Oil

Cajuput Oil is extracted from leaves of myrtaceous tree through the process of distillation. The trees that yield this oil is widely found in Malaysia and Australia. The leaves are collected on a hot-dry day, macerated in water and distilled. It is fermented overnight before distillation. It has a pungent smell. The oil can be used in place of clove oil as both these are typical volatile oils. The colour of this oil is pale yellow. The cajuput oil should not be taken in huge quantity as it might cause vomiting and stomach irritation. A few drops mixed with bath water can give a soothing effect. The cajuput oil blends well with Angelica, cloves, bergamot, geranium, lavender and thyme.
