Unlike acute wounds that pursue a normal course of healing, chronic wounds may persist for months or even years. Chronic wounds have a significant impact on the quality of life of patients and their caregivers, as well as healthcare system as a whole.

ALTRAZEAL Transforming Powder Dressing has demonstrated the ability to promote healing in chronic wounds through a unique combination of moisture vapor permeability, bacterial protection, and flexibility. When hydrated by exudate or sterile saline, the aggregated powder in ALTRAZEAL form an intimate contact with the surface of the wound bed.

Transforming the treatment of venous leg ulcers

A venous leg ulcer is a chronic wound on the leg which fails to heal.

Venous leg ulcers often occur as a result of poor circulation leading to stasis dermatitis, a buildup of fluid under the skin. As fluid builds up, it makes it difficult for the bloodstream to maintain healthy cell nutrition. The skin becomes fragile and may form open sores—ulcers—that are resistant to healing.

ALTRAZEAL Transforming Powder Dressing can help promote healing in venous leg ulcers through its high moisture vapor transpiration rate, and bacterial protection. Because many patients with venous leg ulcers may have compromised mobility, ALTRAZEAL is an excellent treatment choice because it is flexible – it is designed with properties to simulate skin covering a wound bed.

With ALTRAZEAL, there is little risk of damage to fragile skin upon dressing removal, because it does not require adhesives and, in most cases, no secondary dressing is required. ALTRAZEAL is designed to easily flake off as the wound heals and new epidermis forms beneath the dressing or from the wound margins. If it becomes necessary to remove the dressing, simply re-hydrate ALTRAZEAL with sterile saline, and it lifts gently off the wound without harming sensitive skin.

Transforming the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers

Foot ulcers are common in patients with diabetes, and may lead to serious complications, including amputation, if left untreated.

ALTRAZEAL has been demonstrated to promote healing in diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) and protect these wounds from infection – a leading cause of amputation. ALTRAZEAL binds tightly to the wound and provides high moisture vapor transpiration. Although the precise mechanism of action has not been determined, it is believed that this close contact and high moisture vapor transpiration rate (MVTR) at the interface between the dressing and wound bed creates an environment that stimulates the formation of granulation tissue.

Because many patients with DFUs may have reduced mobility, ALTRAZEAL is an excellent treatment choice because it is flexible – it's designed to move and flex with the skin.1 ALTRAZEAL often requires no secondary dressing, and its flexibility may promote better compliance among patients who may be treated at home.

Because pressure ulcers are caused by reduced mobility, ALTRAZEAL is an excellent treatment choice because it is thin and flexible – it's designed to move and flex with the skin. ALTRAZEAL often requires no secondary dressing.

Pressure ulcers occur when sustained pressure cuts off blood flow to a part of the body and damages tissue, sometimes to the point of necrosis, or cell death.
