1-mcp is an ethylene inhibitor which can block exogenous and endogenous ethylene of fresh apples,tomatoes,kiwi etc . So a simple 1-mcp postharvest application could delay the onset of the rise in ethylene production and similarly delay the rise in respiration, and prevent ripening and softening for fruits.
