We placed an order for 200 tons of copper cathode and the buyer demanded 30% upfront. Because we had not dealt with them before we traveled from Australia to visit their site and inspect the product. They demanded we pay $600US to cover their costs to visit the warehouse as they were based in another town which we foolishly paid. On arrival the stock was there but it was in an unmarked warehouse. We requested proof of ownership of the product and they refused demanding that we pay them $10,000 US before they would provide the information and discuss it with us further. We argued with them for over an hour and then left.

RECOMMENDATION: |
We were lucky to only lose our $600 and travel costs and time. But very glad we did not send off the initial deposit.
