COMPLAINT:
My Chinese Supplier contact was a women named Lucy Liu (her email is [email protected] and her Skype address is yanxianglucy, phone number 0086-022-83711486). By the way, I was never permitted to speak to management but the CEO's email (according to my information) is [email protected]. Ms. Liu was very responsive to start and provided a very fair price and fast turnaround with quotations. We talked frequently on Skype. We negotiated the price and I sent her the outdoor environmental conditions for the air conditioned cabinetry. We negotiated the contract over a period of less than 10 days (starting about 10 August, agreeing by 20 August, and shipping to me on 31 August). Again, very responsive and attentive.

She told me that she would have one of her engineers calculate the appropriately sized air conditioner and would engineer the product to my needs immediately. I provided her with the exact city name, the expected temperature and the fact that this was an outside installation in southern Vietnam. The cabinetry was required to maintain an internal temperature not to exceed 20 degrees C. They provided me a stamped pro-forma invoice with all details therein.

Clearly the engineer did not size appropriately because when the unit arrived in Vietnam - where we immediately installed it - the temperature was an immediate concern. We installed the unit and turned on the air conditioning - completing the project at approximately 10:00 pm. When we arrived at approximately 9 am the following day, the inside of the cabinetry was in excess of 30 degrees C. By 11 am the inside temperature was approximately 48 degrees C. By noon, the air conditioning system had shut down and the temperature was exceeding 55 degrees C.

But, I was not worried, because Ms. Lucy had been so responsive, I was sure that they would make good on this project. However, when I contacted her via Skype, she deleted my account and would not respond. So, I knew this had to be a mistake. .. I then assigned to my staff to get in contact with her. She replied a couple times but then stopped talking with them. Finally, I put one of my Chinese staff on this project and she started to answer some questions.

However, it was not to be adequately resolved. They insisted that it was my fault that I accepted the equipment and the recommendation of their engineer. They told me that I must assume 50% of the costs. So, they gave me a high price for an air conditioner replacement and shipping and said that is their final offer. We tried to discuss and encouraged them to consider that I am not an air conditioner and cabinetry engineer so I needed to rely on them. I was not aware that I had to hire an American Engineer specializing in air conditioning sizing and cabinetry insulation before accepting their offer.

I guess this is a good thing. This was the first order of ten (10) units that we are shipping to our various client sites - so for the first item. .. . SHAME ON THEM!!!!!! But I encourage all to be wary of this company.

RECOMMENDATION:
Over the last two years, we have learned the following. 1. You must visit your vendor sites/factories (even for such a small project as this one). Often we try to group together several vendors and investigative trips to save on our travel costs. 2. And, never trust engineering calculations conducted by the vendor. This was my new lesson. 3. We have about 15 regular suppliers in China and all of them are really AWESOME. We thank them for this! But, it only takes a couple bad ones to make your project a real disaster, sadly.
